Strelcheck Chiropractic Clinic Patient, Maria, Crystal Lake IL

My name is Maria Mitchum and I started coming here around mid-April because for the last five years I have been having really bad pains in my right leg. I was having lower back pains, headaches and neck aches. I had seen a doctor for all of this and I was diagnosed with a condition. He wanted to start me on a regiment of steroids, a treatment with steroids. Along with the steroids there were other medications to counteract the effects and I really didn’t want to do that. At the time I was taking care of my father and this one, she’s just two, she was just born and I read about the side effects of steroids and mood swings, I wasn’t going to deal with that. My son was already seeing Dr. Strelcheck and he kept telling me: “You have to see a chiropractor.” He didn’t want me to take this medication and I didn’t want to do it either. I dealt with my problems taking Advil at night so I could sleep because I was having a really hard time sleeping at night with the pain. Finally I decided I am going to do it, I’m going to come see the doctor. I never saw a chiropractor, I was seeing my rheumatologist and he is the one… He’s a great doctor don’t get me wrong at Northwestern but when he said this is what I needed to do in order to get my condition under control, I really didn’t want to go that route and when my son recommended this doctor, I said why not? Let me give it a shot. The treatments have been helping tremendously. I used to go up and down the stairs like a baby almost; one foot then the next, one foot then the next and now I can even run up and down the stairs. It’s amazing!

Strelcheck Chiropractic PhysioTaping

Hi, I am Candice, a physical therapy technician at Strelcheck Chiropractic Clinic. Today we are going to talk about physiotaping. Let’s start with what is physiotherapy? It originated in Japan during the 1970s when doctors were looking for a sports taping method that would assist in the healing of tissues and muscles but not reduce the range of motion at a joint. Once medical professionals began seeing the numerous beneficial effects, it quickly moved into the United States and many other countries. Nowadays you see athletes wearing brightly colored physio-tape at most sporting events. Physiotape is believed to work by reducing pain, improving function and reducing swelling. So let’s break that down. Physio-tape may work to reduce pain by stimulating nerve receptors in and under the skin. Signals from the receptors that detect movement and touch reach the brain faster than pain signals therefore the pain signals interrupted and the pain is decreased. This is the same concept as when you accidentally bump your head and quickly rub it to decrease the pain. Physiotape may also work to improve the function at a joint. When tape is applied with considerable stretch it changes the position of bony structure. This allows a joint to move freely and with correct alignment. Applied physiotape may also help to reduce swelling in an area. It is believed that the tape helps to activate the autonomic nervous system which regulates blood circulation and in turn decreases inflammation. Now let me demonstrate how physiotape is applied. So the first step is to wipe the area down with alcohol swab. Then we are going to begin by adding our first trip of physiotape. Now if the taped area ever becomes red, itchy or irritated, remove the tape right away. Also if the tape ever increases your pain or discomfort remove it. It is only to bathe, shower or swim with the physiotape on. However the adhesiveness of the tape becomes reduced when it is wet therefore patting the area dry rather than rubbing it is always the best option. Now the physio-tape should stay on your skin for approximately one week however, if it begins to roll, attempts to replace it. If it continues to roll, snip it off at the base of the role. If you find that you’re having trouble with your physio-tape staying, shave the area prior to your next taping session. Now we are going to add our last strip here. The easiest way to remove physiotape is in a warm shower with a little bit of soap and water. Remember to pull with the direction of the hair growth for easiest removal. Our last step here is just to smooth down all our edges and make sure we have a nice tight seal. As you have learned, physiotape can be used to decrease a variety of symptoms associated with the muscular and skeletal systems. For additional information, please ask your doctor as it is always recommended to confirm with a healthcare professional prior to attempting use.

Taking Charge Of Your Health And End Pain Naturally, Strelcheck Chiropractic, Crystal Lake IL

Dr. Strelcheck:Well, first understanding what chronic means is important. Chronic means it’s been around an extremely long time. So these people have had pain over many, many years and it will affect their mood and it will cause them to be depressed, it will cause them to not want to go out into the public. It will cause them not to be able to do their job as well as they think they can do their job and this is very depressing. Some of the symptoms of chronic pain are irritability, sadness and indifference. The major cause of chronic pain is incorrection; people don’t get their body healed and repaired so it becomes chronic; over and over for years and years the same ongoing injury with the same ongoing condition. Chronic pain is typically treated through pain medication and this helps the individual get some kind of relief although it puts them into a dependency because when the medication wears off the pain returns. There is many ways to help somebody with their chronic pain. First and foremost you have to identify the cause and then break the cycle. If you allow the cause to continue over and over again, you are going to just have the same results which is the chronic pain. We use massage, chiropractic care, exercise and nutritional supplements to break that cycle. With chiropractic we are relieving the pinched nerves that leave your spine and go to your organs are the number one thing. We also move the bone; so we bio-mechanically, your stronger structure. The massage not only is a stress relief but also breaks up scar tissue that is formed in the muscles from the chronic injury that was occurred. The nutrition supplements and supports your adrenal glands and any other organ that is associated with the chronic pain. This supplementation helps the adrenal glands produce more adrenaline which is energy for the body so it can heal and it can heal faster and better. And the exercise, well exercise has been known to release endorphin’s and endorphin’s are a healing entity of the body, it helps the mind feel better and of course building a structure or muscular support system around an injury is always an excellent idea.

Got Pain? The Cause of Pain, Pinched Nerve

Speaker:                And now it’s time for Vital Signs with Dr. Daniel Strelcheck. Dr. Strelcheck:  Got pain? We’ve been treating a silent epidemic for the past 51 years and most don’t even know it’s occurring within their own bodies. Hi, I am Dr. Daniel Strelcheck with Strelcheck Chiropractic Clinic and your pain might be coming from what we call a subluxation. A subluxation can occur in any joint in your body at any time; most commonly though they are found in your spine. A subluxation has three major components; A bone misalignment A pinched nerve and Decreased range of motion. A bone misalignment is less in the dislocation. Simply it’s a bone that is not fully aligned with one of the bone. A pinched nerve in the nerve that is not functioning properly because it’s under pressure and a joint with decreased range of motion describes a bone that is not fully moving at its normal range with another bone. So a subluxation is a bone misalignment that puts pressure on the nerve and decreases the joint’s ability to move. It also causes symptoms of pain, tension and an overall deterioration of health. Chiropractors are the only trained and licensed healthcare practitioners to detect and treat subluxations. So the next time you’ve got pain, contact Strelcheck Chiropractic Clinic. For a happy and healthy life I am Dr. Daniel Strelcheck.
